Abel Tasman coastline at golden hour

Plan the journey before the trip

Getting to Abel Tasman.

Most Wilsons trips begin around Motueka or Kaiteriteri. Allow time for summer traffic, parking, check-in and the final walk to the ticket office.

Start here

Check the right departure point.

Abel Tasman trips are easy to reach when the meeting point is clear. Day cruises and many day trips commonly depart from Kaiteriteri. Lodge-based multi-day walks and some travel arrangements may involve Motueka check-in or coach transfers.

Your booking confirmation will include the correct check-in location, time and travel instructions for your chosen trip.

Kaiteriteri

Ticket office and beach departures

1 Kaiteriteri-Sandy Bay Road, Kaiteriteri. Used for many day cruises, water departures and beach-based experiences.

Motueka

Main office and trip support

409 High Street, entrance on Old Wharf Road. Used for enquiries, lodge-based walk arrangements and some coach-transfer logistics.

Travel timing

Give yourself more time than the map suggests.

Summer traffic, beach parking and check-in queues can add pressure to the start of the day. Build in margin so the trip starts relaxed.

From Nelson

Allow 1 hr 15 min+

Nelson to Kaiteriteri takes about 1 hour 15 minutes in clear conditions. Leave extra time during peak holiday periods.

From Motueka

Allow 25 min+

Motueka to Kaiteriteri takes about 25 minutes in clear conditions, but beach traffic and parking can slow the final stretch.

Before departure

Check in early

Arrive with enough time to park, check in, use facilities and walk to the boat.

Parking and check-in

Kaiteriteri gets busy.

Kaiteriteri has public parking, but spaces are in high demand during summer and school holidays. Allow time to find a park and walk back to the ticket office before check-in closes.

If you are joining a lodge-based experience, confirm your luggage, coach and meeting instructions before arrival.

Still unsure?

Ask before you travel.

If your group has timing, mobility, parking, luggage or connection questions, contact the team before the day of travel.
